2023 Year End Letter (4/13/2024)

Finally, here’s our very first post-Easter Year End Letter.

Remodeling the house occupied the entire year – reroofing, flooring, paint, adding a shower and sink to the closeted toilet that had been the “bathroom.” And some closet space. Cleaning up the property was a thing – putting in a fence, planting plants, many of them donated by our dear friend and neighbor, Barbara. Diane’s landscape-architecture gradually and magically continues to evolve, attracting the curiosity of neighborhood cats. Under the house I raked the artifact-rich dirt – enough rusted valves, bolts, nuts, and gaskets for an auto-parts store archeological site.
Diane spent hours scanning and archiving family photographs, puzzling out our upcoming season’s schedule, and listening to my reading of passages from my book, to which she deftly responded with spot-on editorial advice. And she returned to painting, creating a lovely watercolor.

Summer and autumn we made multiple trips between home, Wawona, and Los Angeles (medical tests & family visits), often managing the remodeling by phone and shopping online for things like doorknobs and light fixtures. We are grateful and indebted to our long-time friends Carole and Scott, who loaned us the use of their condo during the invasion of our house by construction workers.

“Grateful” is the word that keeps popping up. So many of you have encouraged us along the way! Though it’s been a rather unsettled year, we’ve continued to create art, music, our first book, enjoy family and friends, continue performances at the Wawona Hotel, and lay plans for future projects. Generous support from our dear friends and family have enabled yet another season in Wawona, for which we are deeply and eternally grateful. Thank you with all our hearts.

Wishing you a healthy and love-filled 2024,

Tom & Diane Bopp
