Dean Detrick
Dean Detrick is a southern California artist
who has worked "on the art trail"© as a
painter, printmaker, photographer, designer and teacher.
The journey began in 1964 with formal art training at
California State University, Northridge and at UCLA,
where he completed his B.A. in art (1968) and his MFA in
painting (1971).
A major influence on Dean's fine art style
was his instructor and graduate committe advisor, the
American painter Richard Diebenkorn. Two other artists
whose work have significantly affected Dean's modern
visual approach are John Marin (American) and Paul Klee
(French). Stylistically, Dean's art is a blend of Cubism,
Expressionism and experimental abstraction, which pursues
and celebrates artistic freedom, visual invention,
primitive simplicity, spontaneous expression and the
adventure of creativity.
