SUMMER
GALLERY

Here's my watercolor impression of a Wawona waitress, dashing
across the dining room with a menu and tray, back before they carpeted over the hardwood floor.

A good way to work up an appetite for dinner is to take a swim at the Swinging Bridge, a short drive upstream of the hotel on the South Fork of the Merced River.

The Swinging Bridge features two wonderful swimming holes, well known to locals and visitors.

There are plenty of flat stretches of granite on which to lounge; it's a fine place to spend a summer's day.

You can get directions and a map from the hotel's front desk.

Yes, you can jump off the bridge; you can also jump off Half-Dome--it just might not be good for you.

In the flood of 1997, the river overflowed the Swinging Bridge, and logs caused severe damage; it has since been repaired and re-opened.

It's a lousy place to fish.
